So you want to find out more about me? Well this should give you a small insight into some main areas of my life so far! I've always had a busy lifestyle, which is the way I like it, whether its educational, recreational, professional or just having fun!
I enrolled at Brunel University in 2004 to begin a 3 year course studying Multimedia, Technology and Design and graduated in summer 2007 with 2:1 BSc honours. Over the 3 years I was able to learn a variety of multimedia skills from website design and flash animation to video editing and even the business side of multimedia.
One of the particular highlights of the course was being able to go to Brighton to film a midnight gig by Aqualung after interviewing the band.
Technology changes ever so quickly and by studying this course I was able to keep up with changing technology advances and new web standards to allow me to produce work that is both visually pleasing and practical for its use.
I have had a keen interest in radio since I completed a weeks work experience at BBC Radio Essex in February 2002, during this I shadowed various programmes which was a great insight into the workings of a radio station and from this I developed my love of radio. I was asked to continue on at BBC Essex helping out on the Drivetime programme and working on various over shows. I was also able to learn basic use of the playout system, how to work the desk and general broadcasting skills.
It was at this point that I decided to see what it was like behind the mic, so in October 2003 I became
a member at Hospital Radio Chelmsford and
joined the Sunday night request team as a DJ. I learnt how to use the desk and the Myriad playout software,
and also had my first experience of news presenting, which involved me not only presenting the news, sport and
weather but also research and writing the script.
It was at Hospital Radio Chelmsford that I met Aaron Beadle and Matthew Tunstill who introduced me to my next radio involvement; CMP Radio. This was a unique radio station that allowed anyone to broadcast legally online for free from your own home, it allowed me to develop my radio skills further and I, like many other DJs on the station, purchased a mixer to give a more professional experience. Unfortunately, due to a change in the licencing laws, CMP Radio was forced to cease broadcasting on 28th December 2004. However, at this point I had gained some great radio experience which prepared me for my next radio venture.
In September 2005 I became involved in my next radio involvement.
Reach is an RSL (Restricted Service
Licence) radio station which broadcasts to Chelmsford in Essex and can broadcast up to two 28 day broadcasts
per year. We had our first broadcast in 2006 which ran from 8th July to August 4th. My position at the station
was Station Manager and Head of News and was run with Aaron Beadle (Project Leader) and Daniel Hoult (Assistant
Project Leader).
My involvement with the Duke of Edinburgh's Award spanned from 1999 through until 2004 when I went to St.
James' Palace to receive my Gold Award from the Duke of Edinburgh. My expeditions took me all across the
country from the South Downs to Wales and Shropshire. For my final expedition for my Gold award in July 2003
I was lucky enough to be able to go on Expedition to the Appenine mountains in Italy.
These experiences allowed me to learn and develop many new skills, most of all team building, which is an essential skill to be able to complete all 3 awards, which has been of great value to me.
